For the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me.
There were weeks when I felt motivated, confident, productive, and excited about life. Then there were other weeks when I struggled to do the simplest things. Going to the gym felt impossible. My motivation disappeared. I didn’t feel like myself.
I blamed myself.
I thought I was lazy. I thought I lacked discipline. I wondered why I couldn’t just “snap out of it.”
Then I started learning more about hormones and paying attention to my cycle.
For me, it was eye-opening.
I began to notice that the way I felt wasn’t random. There seemed to be a pattern. While I’m still learning and working with my healthcare provider, simply recognizing that hormones can influence mood, energy, and motivation helped me stop being so hard on myself.
This isn’t an excuse to avoid responsibility, but it is a reminder to give yourself grace while also paying attention to what your body is trying to tell you.
If you’ve noticed significant changes in your mood, motivation, or daily functioning, don’t ignore them. Track your symptoms. Write down how you feel throughout the month. Then talk with your healthcare provider about what you’re experiencing.
You deserve to feel like yourself.
I’m sharing this because I know there are other women who have silently wondered, “Why do I feel like a completely different person?”
You’re not alone.
Sometimes understanding what’s happening is the first step toward getting the help you need.
